I have a confession to make.
I’m not here help you to build a 7 figure business, dominate the world, access your superpower or be a rock star/ninja.
My work here is to help you be 100% you – in your business and in your life.
I’ve discovered in my own life/work journey, as well as through some nifty research by Brene Brown, that opening up to being ourselves and vulnerable to our feelings and each other is the path to wholehearted success.
I get discouraged when I read so much marketing about minor details that don’t matter. Or when I see people readjusting their lives to model people they admire.
That copycat stuff doesn’t build a business. In fact, it totally distracts you from doing your thing.
I know this doesn’t sound as helpful as a post about “7 Ways to Success…” but the truth is, you don’t need another post about “4 Ways to Build a List”, “10 Blogging Secrets the Pros Won’t Share”, or “Conquering Your Fear in 5 Minutes a Day.”
That stuff is out there and all of it is someone’s opinion stated as fact.
The real truth is, nothing we do on this life and business building journey can be boiled down to bulleted tips and blog post insights. It’s bigger than that and deep down we all know it.
Here is what I know as a psychologist and an entrepreneur
When you are connected with your true self and build a business that supports your life, you are engaged in your work in ways that make you happy.
When you are happy, you are energized to do the work that makes you money.
Making money is a positive reward for your efforts, which makes you even happier, so you are willing to do MORE of what lead you to that success.
It’s a positive reinforcement cycle.
Ever wonder why you procrastinate, feel overwhelmed or seem busy with little to show for it? Chances are you aren’t focused on the stuff that really gets you excited. In order to do the work (some of which isn’t always fun), you need to be doing something that you love in a way that is comfortable and supports your life.
But to get into that flow of positive reinforcement in your comfort zone, you need to look in the mirror and commit to following your own path and blazing your own trail.
This requires what I call “inside work.”
You need to go deep into yourself and listen to your true calling and build a business from that place.
That courage and audacity to do things YOUR way and bypass the noisy marketing of blueprints and recipes and color-by-numbers systems will get you to any destination you want to go.
Inside work isn’t neat and clean and quick
Inside work can’t be expressed in a tweet or enough characters to fit into the headline of a Facebook ad.
But it isn’t hard work. You can do it at your desk or as you go for a walk or run. Inside work is often best done while driving or in the shower or after watching a movie that makes you think.
It’s true it does take courage to put all of ourselves into our business. It’s brave to admit that what you want isn’t exactly what most people want to sell to you.
Like I said at the beginning of this post – I don’t want to lead you toward 7 figures, an email list of thousands or ninja status. I want to know you and help you to reach your goals, whatever they are.
Your dreams are unique and are worthy of respect and coming true.
All you have to do is be you….
